Be Upstanding to be Outstanding

It would be reassuring if we could always assume every person we dealt with in business was an upstanding citizen who could be trusted to be open, fair and honest. How successful might we all become if we strived to be the best we could be in our own businesses and everyone else was striving likewise in their own endeavors. There would be no more scams, rip-offs, cheating or deceit.

You may have heard of the expression “be the change you want to see occur in the world”. Yes, it can be a challenge in a world where a percentage of people do not understand the concepts of being considerate, honest or helpful, being in it only for themselves. One of the problems is that some people simply do not see themselves as others see them. They are not aware of their own shortcomings because in their minds, they don’t have any shortcomings.

How do you know if you fall into this category? No offence, but none of us can progress if we are not aware of our shortcomings, because without this knowledge, there is nothing to work with. Lessons You can Learn from Humpty

How many times have you heard someone say, “Losing my job was the best thing that ever happened to me!” Does hearing this sentiment make you scratch your head in puzzlement? How could something so negative be so positive? What’s the person’s secret?

Few of us begin our careers with the intent of doing something else. After all, we’ve invested quite a bit in getting to where we are. Much like Humpty Dumpty, we proudly sit atop our wall of achievements and accomplishments giving little thought to doing anything else. However, with today’s winds of change, it’s pretty likely that sometime in our working lives we will find ourselves tumbling from our safe perch. For most of us the great fall occurs when:

 Our job is eliminated through downsizing.
 Our company is acquired or merges with another company and the new situation no longer appeals to us.
 Our job stays the same but we just can’t get excited about it anymore.

Need Your Input on This Idea…

Okay, so I have a couple new ideas that I want to share with you.

Trouble is, I don’t know which one I should focus on. That’s why I need your input. I’d like to know which of these ideas is most interesting to you.

Idea #1: One-Day Business Workshop

I was thinking of doing a business workshop on Thursday, June 17, in the Philadelphia area.

Basically, I would walk you through the first four steps of my 12-step business growth program in person. Plus, you would actually be working and implementing before you left to go home.

It would be a small group, perhaps 8-12 people max.

Idea #2: Paid Teleseminar Series

Now, this second idea is really just a variation of the first. I would still take you through the first four steps of my 12-step business growth program, but this time it would be done via teleseminar.

I’m thinking 4 teleseminars over the course of 4 weeks. You would get the MP3s of each call in case you missed one.

Obviously, there would be no travel required and the cost of the teleseminar series would be less than the workshop. I could also let more people participate.

10 Ways to Boost Your Opportunity to Attract High Paying Clients

1:  Have simple language to describe your business – “elevator speech”. Be unique – should address WHY somebody would hire you – what problems you solve. Aim for approximately 15 words. Sometimes you only have seconds to tell a stranger about yourself – make it count.

2:  Display self-confidence and professionalism. People want to hire those who are doing it better than they are. Everything from your personal appearance through to your website,  business card, brochures, etc. should express your professional and successful image. What do you need to do to display these traits? (i.e. use a VA)

3:  Develop a Niche – focus on your ideal client.  Develop one niche at a time. Face it – you can’t be all things to all people – much better to be a Master of One or Two than a jack of all trades!  Because when your ideal client goes looking for somebody who does X, they want a Master, right? What niche(s) are you or can you be qualified to work in?

4:  Network – know where your Niche hangs out and be there to meet them. Which professional organizations do your niche/ideal clients belong to? What journals would they read? How can you meet and network with YOUR niche/ideal clients? How many ways?  (Include social media networking.)

5:  Look for high paying clients – what niche would you find for them?  High-income owners are Dentists, Lawyers, surgeons, doctors, managers, CEO’s, etc. What other high income clients could you work with and what niche would you find for them? (more…)
